Let them eat cake

IMG_0190Today I did something a bit decadent. I had a dozen cupcakes delivered to my work from Cupcaketionery. Sometimes you got to add some extra excitement to the day!

Why cupcakes? Well, you see these weren’t just any old cupcake – the ones I ordered were both vegan and gluten free friendly. Kind of healthy treat I would say! Cupcaketionery is also dairy free, lactose free, rennet free…I don’t think I even know what that means!

I put them through a taste test with a handful of curious colleagues – none of them are vegans or gluten free people – and here’s what they thought:

“Icing is very good and light” – seemed to be the general consensus

IMG_0187“Actual cake is kind of dry and not as moist as I would like”

“Very cocoa-ey”

“Can tell they are healthy”

My final verdict. I would order from Cupcaketionery again, but think I would stick to their other variety which is not gluten free. For the record I loved their icing and for me icing really makes the cupcake.

Celebrating int’l women’s day fitness style

399236452_pa196756Did you know today is International Women’s Day? I first became aware of International Women’s Day when I was a child living in Turkey. To mark this year’s International Women’s Day I thought I’d give a shout out to the women that have inspired me fitness and health-wise:

  • The first one is an easy one for me. My Mom. Over the last few years she has constantly inspired me with her ability to become an incredibly healthy and fit woman.
  • Ms. Run Shorts – an incredible running coach and friend.
  • All of Team Green – I could not have run a marathon without any of you.
  • My childhood friends who I went to the Hillside Club with. You name it we did it.
  • The entire team at Core Studio – because of all of you I love Pilates.
  • Carla and Myrna Saliba – both have played key roles in introducing running to me.

Playing one of my playlists

MusicPlaylist
Music Playlist at MixPod.com

One of the blogs I read found this little gem. I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with all of you as well. The playlist I created contains a few of my favourite songs to workout to. Most of these songs have made an appearance on the custom playlists I make for any races I do. Some are slow, some are upbeat and some are very top 40. The main thing, though, is that I love them and they motivate me at different points during my workout. So, just hit  play to hear what I listen to.

Confessions of a juicing failure

DSC_0530

I could lie and say I’m one of those people that whip up fresh and healthy juices for myself on a regular basis, but sadly that’s not the truth….

Every now and then I go through phases where I think I’m going to make myself healthy juices for the a.m. I gather up the necessary ingredients, dust off my blender and start blending up a storm. Sadly the nutritious juice I make tends to sit in my refrigerator untouched until it rots and gets thrown down the drain by B. I have good intentions to drink this juice I make in the mornings, but I just never seem to…well, get around to it.

I’m in one of my juicing phases now and currently this green goodness sits in my fridge. Only question is will I actually drink it?

@ Globe Earth

Bread basket @ Earth

Bread basket @ Earth

For the last three years or so the Rosedale Running Room has been like my second home.I love going there (most of the time!) and I think part of the reason why I love it so much is that I love the neighbourhood that it is in. So many great running routes and…restaurants.

There’s a new addition to the neighbourhood – Globe Earth. The menu is made up of local ingredients and deliciousness. I just went for a post-run weekend brunch and although it was a little pricier than my usual weekend breakfast (a salmon omelette at Boom) it was a nice treat and made me try something new. The must-have is the bread basket for the table as they have their own in-house pastry chef. Carbs after a good long Sunday run are in my books another must! :)

I wonder if they will open up the adjacent courtyard for a summer patio experience…if they do I think I’ll be there a lot more!
