Let them eat cake
Today I did something a bit decadent. I had a dozen cupcakes delivered to my work from Cupcaketionery. Sometimes you got to add some extra excitement to the day!
Why cupcakes? Well, you see these weren’t just any old cupcake – the ones I ordered were both vegan and gluten free friendly. Kind of healthy treat I would say! Cupcaketionery is also dairy free, lactose free, rennet free…I don’t think I even know what that means!
I put them through a taste test with a handful of curious colleagues – none of them are vegans or gluten free people – and here’s what they thought:
“Icing is very good and light” – seemed to be the general consensus
“Actual cake is kind of dry and not as moist as I would like”
“Very cocoa-ey”
“Can tell they are healthy”
My final verdict. I would order from Cupcaketionery again, but think I would stick to their other variety which is not gluten free. For the record I loved their icing and for me icing really makes the cupcake.

Healthier eating giveaway
I love looking through cookbooks and finding recipes that inspire me to nourish my body with healthier food. I believe that eating healthier leads to a better me physically and mentally.
Over the years I have acquired a lot of different types of cookbooks. Some are definitely more dog-eared than others. One cookbook that I love is Heidi Swanson of 101 Cookbooks’ Super Natural Love: Five Delicious Ways to Incorporate Whole and Natural Foods in to Your Cooking. Not only does it have a lot of great recipes, but it also has a lot of great information on different types of natural ingredients.
Because Valentines Day is just around the corner I wanted to giveaway some love – love that will help you become a healthier person! I am giving away a brand new copy of Super Natural Love: Five Delicious Ways to Incorporate Whole and Natural Foods in to Your Cooking. To enter all you need to do is leave a comment and let me know what your favourite healthy snack is.
Deadline to enter is February 12th and giveaway is open to Canadian/ U.S. residents only. Winner will be randomly selected using a random number generator and will be announced on February 13th.
Please note that I have no affiliation with the author of this cookbook. I just really like it!

The perfect post-winter workout treat
I have a confession to make. I have become a DAVIDs tea addict. Each weekend I love to head to the store closest next to me and pick up a couple of new teas. No matter what mood I am in I always leave DAVIDs tea feeling happy. Maybe it has something to do with how friendly all of the staff are – they really seem to love their job. As the woman today said how could they not as there isn’t really anything stressful about tea. Very true.
My top 3 picks to have:
-Bear trap
-The Skinny
-Glitter and Gold (available this winter only!)
So, after a winter workout why don’t you treat yourself to a tea at DAVIDs tea. You won’t be disappointed. Make the trip even better by bringing along a friend to catch up with.

Something mini and sweet
Sometimes you just got to have something sweet. If you happen to work or live near the Commerce Court food court in Toronto I recommend checking out Four restaurant’s takeout counter and sampling one of their very mini but delicious desserts. Truly just enough sweetness to get you through the day. After all sometimes you don’t need to eat the whole cake to feel satisfied.
A much healthier option.
If you are curious about Four and what they are all about I would suggest you check out their website. Up until now I have only been able to grab something from their takeout counter, but would love to try their sitdown option as everything sounds very delicious and nutritious.
PS: Booty Camp Fitness’ founder has some pretty neat videos with Four, so check them out as well.

Post-long run treat – eggs!
I have never been a huge breakfast fan during the week, but on the weekends that is a different story. I love nothing more than a good brunch especially after a long Sunday run. A brunch after running 20 km + is definitely well deserved I would say!
Omelettes are at the top of my must-east after a run. They are yummy and a great way to nourish your body after a taxing workout. One of my favourite recipes comes from Real Simple magazine and here it is! Eggs, goat cheese…delicious.
Here’s what you need (1/2 the recipe if making for two)
- 8 large eggs
- kosher salt and black pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 4 ounces fresh goat cheese, crumbled
- 4 scallions, thinly sliced
To get directions on how to make it just check out the magazine’s website!
This is also a very versatile recipe, so feel free to add in some extras – love to add some tomatoes, hot peppers and spinach to it!
