Trip to Energia on the Danforth
A while ago I purchased an introductory pass for Energia Athletics on the Danforth. I’ve been wanting to go here for a while now as I have been intrigued by their concept – an interesting mix of yoga, spinning and running offerings. Oh and kettlebell classes!
I tried three different classes during my week there:
- Spin/Core
- Spin/Yoga Journey
- Spin
Of the three the one I enjoyed the most was the Spin/Core combo. They teacher was intense (very Lance Armstrong-esque!), the music appealing and the workout was just the right intensity. The additional draw to this class for me was that I had no excuses to not do any core work which I sometimes very conveniently avoid.
The one thing I’m still a little curious about is their run group. They do have a run club, but I didn’t get the opportunity to try it out yet. I think one of the draws for running out of here is the fact that you can complement your running with yoga and spinning.
The one downside to Energia is their bathroom/change room facilities. If you can change before. Trust me.

Gosh, you visit a lot of different gyms! I love that.
So, with all of your experience, maybe you would help me with something?
I'd like to start teaching fitness classes again (part-time) when I get back to Toronto. I'll be living near Kensington Market/Chinatown. Any suggestions as to places I should apply? I think I'd prefer working for some of the “little guys”…I'm a sucker for local businesses.
I'm not sure if you live near there or not, so if you don't know, that's okay! I just thought I'd get an “expert” opinion!
All the best,
Heather
I've only been on a spinning bike once … for five minutes … and it hurt! Ha!
Teena, I tried to check out your site because I'm pretty sure I would really like it but sadly, I can't access it from my current geographic location! I don't know why. So frustrating.
Mmm, I do know the area as I lived in Kensington when I first moved to Toronto. I know there is an Eclipse Fitness on College which is pretty near there. There is also Totum which I think is King/Spadina area. I'm not too sure if I know of all the smaller businesses though.
